Spray foam insulaton in Austin
Contact For QuoteCurrent code requires an ignition barrier be applied onto your foam insulation in attics and crawl spaces... unless you are using one of the new, fire retardant foams that have been tested and exempted.
BioTexFoam fire retardant spray foam is the affordable alternative to an ignition barrier. Code does not require this spray foam to use an ignition barrier. We spray flame retardant Sucra Seal into roof decks and anywhere else we spray foam. Sucra Seal is our default foam insulation. However, you do not need the addition of an ignition barrier, which will usually save you money; you save on additional labor, time and the expense of the ignition barrier spray.
On the internet, I see some competitors saying there is no spray foam insulation that is exempt from code requiring an ignition barrier. When we estimate your home, we will have paperwork in hand showing the City of Austin has exempted this foam from requiring an ignition barrier. Also, the video above shows the retardant difference between SucraSeal and competitors foams.
Home owners, foam contractors, builders and architects should all be on board to make sure a house is compliant with ignition barrier code. If there is a fire, attorneys will want in everyone's wallet, especially if someone is injured. You do not want to be out of compliance. Don't give your insurance company or the legal system a reason to side against you.
∗ This spray foam passes the ACC 377 Appendix X test for flammability uncoated without the use of an ignition barrier and approved by the City of Austin.
